Barbados & Guyana Pavilion

Their Barbados and Guyana pavilion consisted of a series of five linked hexagonal structures raised on stilts, built of Barbados coral and exotic woods from Guyana, with a wood shingled roof. The exhibits inside traced the growth of the two nations from the days of slavery, through colonial status, to independence.

Guyana told the story of how six peoples have united into one nation. Panel displays showed the beauty of the land, and described their vast developed resources such as bauxite, and its undeveloped resources of gold, iron and diamonds.

Barbados told of its historical reliance on sugar, but showed how the island was developing industry. The exhibit also discussed its long-held respect for law, order and tradition.
