    An attempt by Jeffrey Stanton to write the history of 1000 defunct amusement parks. Although. less than 20 parks have been written about so far, research has been going on for three years. State lists of defunct parks with rides and attractions are the best on the Internet with operating dates and usually why each park closed. About 15% of the parks have appeared in Billboard lists, yet there is no information available on the Internet or at historical societies that ignore inquires about old amusement parks in their cities or towns.

    For people heading to Venice who wish to see what the weather is like or how crowded the boardwalk is. A video camera updates the view every 10 minutes. In addition Don Westland showcases artists and his site offers a modern tour of the beach and Venice's famous Ocean Front Walk.

    This site has a very useful list of books written about Venice, mostly fiction, but some non-fiction. It also tries to cover Venice history with lots of antique postcard images by topic.
  • Venice 1926 Amusement Pier - 3D Simulation
    This site has a downloadable module of Venice's amusement pier for use in Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 (PC game simulation). You can actually experience the pier and ride its three roller coasters. Remarkable 2004 program from Atari and a dedicated fan, Mark Paul Sebar, who has also simulated Long Beach's defunct Nu-Pike, and Busch Gardens in the San Fernado Valley. If you don't have the game, just look at the simulation images for each of the parks.

The amusement pier is for use in Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 (PC game simulation). You can actually experience the all of the pier's amusment rides including the roller coaster, flume ride, parachute jump, dark ride, and water slide area. Remarkable 2004 program from Atari and a dedicated fan, Mark Paul Sebar, who has also simulated Long Beach's defunct Nu-Pike, and Busch Gardens in the San Fernado Valley.   • Coney Island History Site
    History articles on Coney's three big amusement parks and its hundreds of independent attractions. Illustrated historic articles, timelines and click-on maps of various parks and entire area that bring up photos of the various attractions. It is a research site for a planned book by the author.

    This site is dedicated to promoting Coney Island. There are pages devoted to the Coney Island Sideshow, the Mermaid Parade, and a visit to Coney Island in current photos.

World's Fair Sites

  • New York 1964 World's Fair
    Five beautifuly detailed color aerial maps show all of the World's Fair pavilions. These click-on maps allow the visitor to get information and see photos (only 25% of the attractions) for each pavilion. There are also several articles about the World's Fair.
  • Expo 67 - Montreal World's Fair
    A visual tour of Montreal's Expo 67 World's Fair. An site map allows the visitor to choose which of the Exposition's four areas to explore. Enlarged click-on maps allow one to visit over 100 pavilions in text and photos. There are also three illustrated articles about Expo's construction, architecture and avante-garde multi-screen cinema.
